We launched BrazenCareerist.com on Saturday night. Actually, it ended up being Sunday morning, technically speaking. We were all set to go live at 9:30 pm. We thought everything was ready, but then we realized the large image wasn’t totally clean, the post titles didn’t fit on one line and the pictures weren’t clear. So we fixed all that stuff. Then, right before it was time to flip the switch, we realized that not everyone’s bio had a link to their blog.
The next hour was hilarious. Ryan, Penelope, and I, delirious from skipping out on sleep for the past two weeks, were hand-jamming html tags into everyone’s bios just minutes before we went live.
Photis, our programmer, (who did an amazing job) was at home in Philadelphia pleading with us that if we let him go to sleep, he would wake up to flip the switch when we called. I was swearing off whoever invented html tags, Ryan was lying on the couch barely able to keep from nodding off to sleep, and Penelope was shooting through each bio with reckless abandon, misspelling every other word.
And that’s how we launched. Not exactly what you would expect. But it was fitting because we’re not exactly a company that you would expect. I mean, how many companies are founded by two twenty-something bloggers and a forty-year-old internet celebrity?
We’ve been working toward this day since last July. We’ve gone through a million ideas for displaying the content, more copy edits than I can count, plenty of arguments, three sidebar designs, and one full site redesign. You can imagine how excited and relieved we are to have a live, fully functioning website.
But I’m a little stressed out. We promised over 50 amazing bloggers that we would create a cool website and a great community. The Brazen Careerist site launch is all about us living up to our end of the bargain, and that’s a lot of pressure!
Luckily, Brazen Careerist is bigger than just me or Ryan Paugh or Penelope Trunk. It’s a site for every blogger who wants to contribute, every Millennial who wants to take an active role in their career, and anyone else who wants to peek into the minds of some really interesting people.
So go check out the site, and give us a ton of feedback. We have some big plans for the future. I hope you’ll all join us for the ride.
In the meantime, I’m going to bed.
